The South African Wakeboard Association can be extremely proud of the recent event (2nd Stop) in the Pro Wakeboard Tour. Thanks to O’Brien Watersports and Broderick Marine, the country’s top riders had the best facilities at their disposal – making for a sublime wakeboard event!

The competition weekend hosted the perfect weather conditions for riders enabling them to make maximum use of the glassy water and provide great spectatorship on the ramp set in the middle of the course.

The Pro Men’s division was on everyone’s lips – watching the best riders in South Africa go head-to-head! Since the riders were forced to change their runs due to the new judging criteria, it was an open ball game. The riders were even more excited when they heard about the big prizes that were up for grabs. Thanks to O’Brien, an excess of R60 000 was made available for prize giving. The Open Men, Ladies, Junior Men, Wakeskate and Novice divisions were also well attended and supported, with some bright young stars and some old hands coming through. Gina Faccio was once again in top form, taking the honours in the Ladies division, with Deirdre van Niekerk hot on her heels. Despite a serious ankle injury, Deirdre suppressed the pain, put on a smile and rode hard to finish in a respectable second place.

O’Brien Watersports deserved a big pat on the back for organising the event. Apart from their impressive stand selling the latest wakeboard gear, one could spot the lovely O’Brien ladies roaming around, providing plenty of eye-candy for the spectators. They also ensured that there was a brand-new bar slider floating on the lake, as an added challenge to the riders while making the event look like a professional wakeboard setup. There were also a whole host of activities to keep the masses entertained. Kids could make use of a big jumping castle or the floating soccer balls, where kids could climb inside and safely roll around on the water surface. With plenty of food and drink stalls, sexy ladies, perfect weather, superlative boats and a great atmosphere all around, the action on the banks was just as hot as the wakeboard action on the water.

Some of the Land based activities to keep the crowds busy
