Andy Mapple and Bob LaPoint went head to head Sunday at the 51st Masters Tournament this Memorial Day Weekend to support Junior Development. It was amazing to see these two greats competing in the first Legends competition on Robin Lake. On Saturday both skied in a traditional format to see who would be first off the dock for Sunday’s head to head. Bob went out and posted a score of 5 @ 38 off only to be bested by Andy running 38 and getting 1/2 @ 39.5 off. Again on Sunday it was Bob going out first, only this time in the head to head competition Andy would be hot on his heels trying to keep up at every pass. When Bob ran 38 off the crowd went crazy as he had never completed that pass on Robin lake in any of his earlier Masters appearances. Andy came back with a clean 38 off run on his Elite and new Prodigy boot setup. When Bob came into 39.5 you could see the determination in his face to capture as many buoys as he could to put the pressure on Andy. Bob completed 1.5 @ 39.5 off and it was then up to Andy to win or lose the event. The photo below shows how clean Andy looked at 2 ball and went on to score 5 @ 39.5 off to capture the bragging rights in this legends battle.
Andy sums up the experience here:
“Skiing on Sunday at the Masters again was a huge Honor, especially to ski against Bob Lapoint. It was just like old times, same feelings, same surroundings, and same moving water!! Something that really did not change was the competitiveness of us both, and it showed with the determination Bob had to run 38off! He has done that to me SO many times!!! Legends at the Masters also pulled new a first….we removed the judge, and had a total of four open seats in the Nautique 200′s, so we offered them out to fans off the beach for a donation to Jr development and Kiwi. Close to $1000 was raised, and to see the excitement level of these fans riding in the tournament boat at the Masters was priceless. Made me realize just how special that event is. Very thankful.”-Andy
